Complementary Settings That Matter
Complementary settings use shared quality profiles from Potato through Ultra. The same ideas apply to Unbound and Reimagined.
Start here after a clean install. If the pack is missing or the world fails to render, fix that on the troubleshooting page before you chase toggles.
Settings overview
Open Shader Pack Settings while Complementary Shaders are active. Start from a named profile, then change one group at a time: shadows, lighting, atmosphere, and water.
Save custom profiles when you find a mix that fits your main world. Switching biomes can change cost, so test rivers, dense forests, and the Nether.
Practical tuning order
- Apply Medium or Potato and measure FPS in your home area.
- Adjust shadow resolution next. It often moves FPS the most.
- Trim volumetric clouds and fog if frame times spike in rain.
- Raise water reflections only after outdoor FPS is stable.
- Save the profile with a clear name such as Survival Medium.
A simple settings path that works
- Pick a named profile first, see Potato to Ultra profiles.
- On weak hardware, jump straight to Potato settings.
- Change one group at a time (shadows, then fog/clouds, then water).
- Walk the same short route after each change so FPS comparisons are fair.
- If a toggle breaks the world, undo it and check troubleshooting.
Settings vs Unbound / Reimagined
Profiles do not replace style choice. Unbound and Reimagined still look different at Medium. Decide style on Unbound vs Reimagined, then use settings to fit your PC.
