Potato Settings for Low-End PCs
Potato exists so low-end PCs can still run Unbound or Reimagined. It cuts expensive effects first while keeping the pack readable for survival.
Treat Potato as a starting profile, not a failure. Many laptop players stay on Potato or Low for everyday worlds.
Enable Potato the right way
Select Complementary Shaders, open Shader Pack Settings, and apply the Potato profile. Test outdoors and in a cave before you add exceptions.
If Potato still stutters, lower vanilla render distance and entity distance. Shader cost stacks with scene load.
Extra cuts after Potato
- Lower shadow quality one step if frame time spikes in forests.
- Reduce volumetric fog during rain storms.
- Cap FPS to your display refresh rate.
- Close background Chrome or Discord hardware acceleration when needed.
- Avoid Ultra screenshot toggles during normal play.
When to leave Potato
If Potato holds a stable high FPS, try Low. Raise only one tier per session so you know which jump cost frames.
Pair this page with the FPS boost guide and requirements before you buy new hardware.
If Potato is still heavy
Lower shadow resolution next, then fog/cloud quality, then water reflections. Cap FPS near your display refresh rate.
Confirm your loader stack is clean with Iris and Sodium. A messy mod list can make Potato look worse than it is.
Hardware still too weak? Read requirements for honest expectations.
How to raise quality later
When FPS is stable in your real home area, move to Low or Medium using profiles. Change one step at a time so you know what costs frames.
