Complementary Installer (optional helper app)

The Complementary Installer is an optional helper app that can place Complementary files for you. Most players install with Iris or OptiFine and never need it.

Windows users can run the EXE. Mac and Linux users should use the JAR with system Java, not Minecraft’s bundled Java.

Download now

Windows EXE is the easy path. JAR is for Mac/Linux with system Java. The helper does not replace Iris or OptiFine.

How to use the installer

  1. Download the Windows EXE if you are on Windows, or the JAR if you are on Mac/Linux.
  2. Close the Minecraft Launcher before you run the helper. Leaving it open can block the install.
  3. Run the EXE directly on Windows, or run the JAR with system Java (not Minecraft’s bundled Java). Do not put the installer in your mods folder.
  4. Choose Unbound or Reimagined when asked. Only add Euphoria later if you already want that add-on.
  5. Finish the steps, then launch Minecraft with Iris or OptiFine and check Options → Video Settings → Shaders.
  6. If the helper fails, download the shader ZIP yourself from Unbound or Reimagined and follow Iris install steps.

Skip the helper app? Install the ZIP yourself with Iris.

Older versions

Older builds stay available if you need to go back. Prefer the latest file unless a modpack or server asks for an older one.

Installer vs manual ZIP install

Manual ZIP install with Iris is enough for most people. Use the installer only if you want guided file placement.

If the helper fails, download Unbound or Reimagined and follow the install guide.

Use the Windows EXE on Windows. Use the JAR on Mac/Linux with a normal system Java install. Minecraft’s bundled Java often cannot run the JAR. Or skip the helper and use the Iris install steps.
Use the Unbound or Reimagined download pages if you skip the helper or need a specific archive ZIP.
It helps place Complementary files, but you should still understand which style you want. Unbound or Reimagined, and confirm the pack appears under Shaders after launch.
